Kim's Snickers Cake

Ingredients:
1 pkg German chocolate cake mix
1 pkg caramels
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup chocolate chips
1 c. walnuts (optional)

Directions:
Mix the German chocolate cake mix as directed. Put 1/2 of the batter in a greased 13x 9 pan and bake and 350 degrees for 20 minutes. reduce heat to 250 degrees. While the first 1/2 of the cake is cooking melt the caramels, 1/2 cup milk, and 1/2 cup butter in double boiler: pour over the cake, sprinkle with 3/4 cup chocolate chips, and the nuts if you are using them. Spread the remaining batter over the top. Bake at 250 degrees for 20 minutes and then at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

The cake is supposed to be frosted with a cool whip and chocolate pudding frosting. However, we use my grandmas fudge frosting which adds about a thousand calories and thus tastes much better.

Fudge frosting:
4 3/4 powder sugar
1/2 cup unsweeten cocoa powder
1 cube butter
1/3 cup boiling water
1 tsp vanilla

Combine pwd sugar and cocoa (mix with a wire whisk), add softened butter, water and vanilla. Mix for one minute on medium spead. I usually frost the cake when it is still a little warm, the thick frosting spreads better that way.
